The Witness Creator Jonathan Blow Says Nintendo Switch Version Not Currently in Development

Originally released last year, Braid developer Jonathan Blow followed up his first puzzle game with the mind-bending The Witness earlier last year and garnered immense critical acclaim, while those hoping to experience the title on the recently-released Nintendo Switch may have to wait a bit longer.

Blow expressed via Twitter that a Nintendo Switch version of The Witness is not in the cards for right now, explaining in response to a fan question that “we are not working on such a port at this time.” While it doesn’t rule out the possibility that the game could come to the Switch eventually, it seems for the time being that we shouldn’t get our hopes up.

Originally released for the PS4 and PC in January of last year (followed by versions on Xbox One, Android, and Mac later on), The Witness served as Blow’s follow-up to the critically-acclaimed Braid and introduced players to a mind-bending series of first-person puzzles on a remote, lush island. Our own review of the game from early last year touched on the game’s exceptional visuals and challenging gameplay, where we awarded the game a 9.0 score:

And as you learn, you’ll see the world – and the possibilities within – change and grow before your very eyes. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel, or rather, at the top of the mountain…

And that’s precisely what makes The Witness such a remarkable achievement, and ultimately, such a pleasurable playing experience. It treats players with a level of respect only a handful of games have demonstrated: it believes in your own potential as a thinker. You don’t know yet, but you will learn.

Acquiring that knowledge will surprise and delight you, but it will never fully satisfy you. There will always be more to learn – beyond this puzzle, beyond this region, beyond this very game. Look closely at The Witness, and at your own world: the answers are out there, and they’re worth seeking.

The Witness is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Android, with an iOS version of the game also in development.
