Muv-Luv Alternative: Strike Frontier’s Google Play and iOS Versions Released

DMM’s Muv-Luv mobile and browser game Muv-Luv Alternative: Strike Frontier was supposed to get a Google Play version for Android and an iOS version on January 18th, but some apparently relevant issues caused a delay.

Today the two new platforms were finally released, and can be found on Google Play and iTunes.  Unfortunately, both versions appear to be available only in Japan, so players in the west will have to stick with the R-Rated Android version via the DMM client, or the browser version.

That being said, the new release might still bring some good news: Japan-only Android games on Google Play are often picked up by third-party apps like QooApp, and once Google’s regional restriction is bypassed, this may make the all-ages version of the game playable in the west without a VPN. At the moment, only the unsafe for work R-Rated version is playable without resorting to an external VPN service, so the availability of the all-ages version might be helpful for those who would like to play the game in the office without risking to be fired by the boss watching over their shoulder.

If you’re curious about the game, which is different from other Muv-Luv titles thanks to its gameplay which is a hybrid between action-RPG and RTS, I’m probably going to write a guide around the end of the week, just to let some time pass and see how the availability situation develops.

In the meanwhile, today we got some very welcome news about the PS Vita release of the first two (actually three) visual novels of the franchise, and the start of the localization project for Muv-Luv Photonflowers.
