Dragon Quest XI’s Characters Finally Get Voices… In a Mobile Game

One of the most discussed aspects of Dragon Quest XI is the decision by Square Enix to go without voice acting on both PS4 and 3DS, and I mean, any voice acting at all, to the point that its characters didn’t even need to be assigned voice actors…until now.

The publisher revealed a new card pack for its popular mobile game Dragon Quest Rivals, and it includes cards for four Dragon Quest XI characters: Senya, Veronica, Sylvia, and Row.

The interesting aspect is Dragon Quest Rivals actually features voice acting, so Square Enix had to assign actual voices to the characters.

Senya will be played by Sora Amamiya, who lent her voice to Reynn in World of Final Fantasy and Elizabeth in The Seven Deadly Sins‘ anime and games.

Veronica will be voiced by Maaya Uchida, who played Rikka Takanashi in Chūnibyō demo Koi ga Shitai! and Irina Shidou in High School DxD.

The flamboyant Sylvia will be played by Masaya Onosaka, who was Leon Schmidt in Valkyria Chronicles and Jin Shirato in Persona 3.

Old man Row will be voiced by veteran Makoto “Mugihito” Terada, known for Nekomata in Nioh, Sigma in the Mega Man series, and Rico in Xenogears.

While it’s quite unlikely that Square Enix will decide to retrofit the voices into the console game, at least now you can imagine them.

Incidentally, Dragon Quest Rivals won’t remain just a mobile game much longer, as it’ll launch on PC on February 22nd, which is also the release date of the expansion.

You can check out a trailer and images of the cards below.

Dragon Quest XI is currently available in Japan for PS4 and 3DS. It’ll also release in the west this year, but still doesn’t have a firm launch date or even confirmed platforms (even if the PS4 version was heavily hinted at). A Switch version is also supposed to be coming, but Square Enix has been absolutely silent about it over the past few months, and we haven’t seen a single screenshot just yet.
