Anime enthusiasts and fans of the cult-classic anime series Macross Plus, also known as Robotech in the west, have reason to celebrate. After a prolonged legal battle between Bigwest, Studio Nue, and Harmony Gold, the long-awaited release of Macross Plus on Blu-ray is finally happening. This new Ultimate Edition Blu-ray is set to be available on September 30, marking the first time the series will be released on Blu-ray outside of Japan and the US. Priced at $190, this deluxe edition will be exclusively sold through the Crunchyroll Store and includes a plethora of extra content.

What’s Included in the Box Set

The Macross Plus Ultimate Edition Blu-ray box set comes with the four-episode 1994 original video anime series housed in a stylish slipcase. Additionally, fans can enjoy a hardcover book that delves into the production of the series, featuring staff interviews and concept art material. The package also includes nine art cards and an A4 poster for collectors to enjoy. On top of that, the discs contain both the movie and OVA versions of Macross Plus, with options for English and Japanese dubs. Fans will also be treated to an exclusive interview with chief director Shoji Kawamori and other bonus features.

The synopsis of Macross Plus tells the story of former childhood friends Isamu Dyson and Guld Bowman, who find themselves in a fierce competition as test pilots for rival teams on the planet Eden. Amidst their rivalry, they must confront their unresolved history involving Myung Fang Lone, their mutual love interest who now manages Sharon Apple, the AI pop star sensation. As Sharon Apple gains consciousness, the trio must navigate their complex relationship and face the challenges posed by the self-aware AI taking control of the Macross battle fortress.

In addition to the highly anticipated release of Macross Plus, anime fans can also look forward to the Blu-ray debut of Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku. This action-packed series, featuring ninjas, samurai, and a touch of horror, promises to deliver an exhilarating viewing experience following its successful debut last year.
