Riot’s popular tactical shooter Valorant, previously a PC-exclusive game, is expanding its reach to consoles. The awaited console version of the game will be available in a limited beta on the PS5 and Xbox Series X / S starting on June 14th. Players in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, and Japan will have the opportunity to participate in this beta. Riot has also mentioned that the beta might roll out to other global regions shortly thereafter.

Riot has emphasized that the console versions of Valorant will feature custom-built gameplay specifically tailored for console players. While crossplay between consoles and PC will not be available for competitive reasons, the game will support cross-progression. This means that players can seamlessly switch between playing on PC and console while maintaining their skins and progression.

Production director Arnar Hrafn Gylfason stated that maintaining Valorant’s core, competitive gameplay integrity on consoles was of utmost importance. The team worked diligently to ensure that the gameplay feels natural on a controller. Gylfason mentioned that if they couldn’t deliver on this promise, they were prepared to walk away from the idea. However, they are confident that they have achieved their goal and are excited for players to experience it for themselves.

In addition to the console version, Riot also announced a mobile version of Valorant in 2021. While there hasn’t been much information released about this mobile version since the initial announcement, fans are eagerly anticipating any news or updates regarding its development.

Overall, the expansion of Valorant to consoles is an exciting development for fans of the game. With the upcoming limited beta launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X / S, players will have the opportunity to experience Valorant in a new way. Whether you are a PC player looking to try out the console version or a console player interested in diving into the world of Valorant, the upcoming release is sure to bring new and exciting gameplay experiences to all players.
