Naoki Yoshida, the director and producer of Final Fantasy 14, has once again expressed his enthusiasm for a collaboration, this time setting his sights on the highly anticipated Diablo 4 from Blizzard. Speaking at the European edition of Fan Fest, Yoshida participated in a press conference where he discussed his dream collaboration with various journalists. As a fervent fan of Blizzard, he enthusiastically stated, “If we could just make it work, then I would be so happy to see some sort of collaboration with Diablo.”

However, while Yoshida’s inner fan yearns for this collaboration, he acknowledged the significant challenges that would come with it. Diablo and Final Fantasy 14 possess different aesthetics and atmospheres, making it difficult to find common ground that would please both fan bases. Yoshida admitted, “Diablo has quite a hardcore graphics outlook in terms of the world. You see spikes here and there; there are lots of spikey things in that. And in terms of the ratings, it might be a bit difficult. And, of course, on the other hand, we don’t really want to disappoint fans of the franchise as well. So yeah, it’s a tricky one. If we go for a softer version of Diablo in FF14, maybe that’s not what people want as well.”

As both a gamer and a fan of games from all over the world, Yoshida expressed his desire to achieve collaborations with other franchises in a way that satisfies fans of both sides. He believes that such collaborations would generate more excitement and hype for the industry as a whole. “Definitely, if we could achieve it, I would be happy,” Yoshida stated.

Final Fantasy 14 has a long history of successful collaborations. In addition to partnering with the creatives behind Nier, Final Fantasy 12, and Tactics, Square Enix has also collaborated with Monster Hunter and is currently working on a joint project with the Fall Guys team. These partnerships have allowed Final Fantasy 14 to explore new and exciting elements outside of its own universe.

While Diablo is primarily associated with Activision Blizzard, it has also ventured into collaborations with other franchises. Diablo 4 has made appearances in both World of Warcraft and Call of Duty, showcasing the potential for cross-franchise collaborations. With the recent acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft and its strong relationship with Square Enix, it is possible that we may see a strengthened partnership between Blizzard and Square Enix in the future.

The prospect of a collaboration between Final Fantasy 14 and Diablo 4 is undoubtedly exciting for fans of both franchises. However, it is crucial to find a balance that satisfies the distinct aesthetics and expectations of each fan base. While it may be challenging, the potential for a successful collaboration that captures the essence of both games is a tantalizing prospect.

Naoki Yoshida’s desire for a collaboration between Final Fantasy 14 and Diablo 4 highlights the creative aspirations and goal of generating excitement within the gaming industry. Although the challenges are significant, the potential rewards of a successful collaboration are substantial. Fans of both franchises can only hope that these dreams become a reality, allowing them to experience a unique and memorable crossover that transcends the boundaries of their individual universes.
