X (formerly known as Twitter) has recently received a response from XGaming regarding Nintendo’s decision to discontinue support for the social media platform. According to the response, XGaming acknowledges that the product decision to cease integration with X was made by Nintendo. This decision will require Switch users to download gameplay media directly to their smartphones to share on X’s platform.
The discontinuation of X integration will have far-reaching consequences for various Switch games, including popular titles like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Splatoon 3, and Splatoon 2. Nintendo’s official announcement outlines the specific changes that users can expect with the removal of X support.
Effective June 10th, 2024, Switch users will no longer be able to post screenshots and videos to X from the system’s album. Additionally, sending friend requests to social media users will also be disabled. This means that players will need to find alternative methods to share their in-game achievements and connect with friends on social platforms.
The removal of X integration will impact various features within specific games. For instance, in Splatoon 3, users will no longer be able to post directly to X or Facebook from certain in-game locations. Instead, the data will be sent directly to Nintendo servers. This means that users will no longer be able to send friend requests to social media friends directly from the console.
