Each GPU features over 10,752 cores, 48 GB of memory, and a 300 W TDP, culminating in a total of 1,612,800 cores, 7,200 GB of GDDR6 memory, and a potential maximum power draw of 45,000 W at full capacity. These GPUs drive 16 internal displays with a resolution of 16K, accompanied by 1.2 million programmable LED pucks adorning the exterior of the sphere. The content is streamed using Nvidia BlueField DPUs, ConnectX-6 DX NICs, and Rivermax media streaming software to ensure synchronization across all screens.
Despite the technological marvel of the Sphere, its extravagant display comes at a cost. Apart from the $2.3 billion construction expenditure, the sphere is estimated to consume 28,000,000 watts of power. This massive energy demand raises concerns about sustainability and environmental impact, especially in a region like Nevada. To address this issue, plans are underway to source 70% of the Sphere’s power from solar energy, with the remaining 30% coming from non-renewable sources offset by renewable energy credits. Nevada’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 aligns with this effort, with a solar project expected to be completed by 2027 to help offset the energy consumption of the Sphere.
