In the world of PC hardware, plans for new products are constantly evolving. Recently, there have been rumblings about two potential new graphics cards from AMD: the Radeon RX 7400 and RX 7300. These cards, if they come to fruition, could provide much-needed options for budget-conscious consumers looking for affordable graphics cards under $260.
While details about these new graphics cards are scarce, it is believed that they will be based on the same Navi 33 GPU as the RX 7600 XT. This means that the maximum configuration available with this GPU includes 2,048 cores and a 128-bit bus. However, it is expected that the RX 7400 and RX 7300 will have fewer cores than the RX 7600 XT, considering that the latter already maxes out the GPU’s capabilities.
Videocardz speculates that these new GPUs could be relatively small, given that AMD’s current RX 6000-series GPUs have low core counts. For example, the RX 6400 has only 768 cores, and the RX 6500 XT has just 1,024 cores. Despite potentially having a slim memory bus, the shift from RDNA 2 to RDNA 3 architecture could still provide an improvement in performance.
One of the key factors to consider is the price point at which these new graphics cards will be positioned. The RX 7600, which is currently the cheapest 7000-series graphics card available, retails for around $269. Given the lower core counts expected in the RX 7400 and RX 7300, it is likely that these cards will be priced below $200. While this may not seem like a significant discount, it is important to note that there are limited options in the discrete graphics card market at this price range.
In terms of competition, Nvidia has largely moved away from the ultra-low-end market, leaving room for AMD to target budget-conscious consumers with its new offerings. Intel, on the other hand, has a few aging GPUs in this price range, such as the Arc A580 and A380. However, AMD’s new graphics cards could potentially offer better performance and value for money in comparison.
It is worth mentioning that with the advancement of integrated graphics technology, such as AMD’s Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G processors, the need for a separate budget GPU may be diminishing. These chips provide impressive integrated graphics performance, making them a viable option for users on a tight budget who don’t require a discrete graphics card.
Additionally, AMD’s desktop APUs offer options with varying core counts, such as the 768-core or 512-core RDNA 3 GPUs. The potential for a desktop APU with the 1,024-core GPU found in the laptop-focused HX 370, the Radeon 890M, could further expand the range of affordable graphics options available to consumers.
While the arrival of the RX 7400 and RX 7300 would provide additional choices in the budget graphics card market, consumers should also consider alternative options such as integrated graphics solutions from AMD. The evolution of PC hardware is constantly changing, and it is important for consumers to stay informed about the latest developments in order to make the best choices for their needs.
