Nintendo has announced that they will be discontinuing the Switch’s integration with Twitter, starting on June 10. This decision means that players will no longer have the option to post screenshots directly from their Switch device to Twitter. The company provided more detailed information about the changes on their FAQ page, revealing that specific games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Splatoon 2, and Splatoon 3 will be affected.
Impact on Specific Games
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, players will no longer have the ability to post from the Switch’s album to Smash World in the Nintendo Switch Online smart device app. This change will significantly impact the way players share their in-game achievements and experiences with the community. Similarly, in Splatoon 2, users will lose the option to post to Twitter from the mailbox in Inkopolis Square. Furthermore, characters and posts displayed in Inkopolis Square will now be replaced by data already prepared within the game’s software.
The same restrictions on social media posting will apply to Splatoon 3. Players will not be able to post from the mailbox in Splatsville and Inkopolis Plaza. Instead, data from the game will be sent directly to Nintendo servers, allowing users to make posts without the necessity of a social media account. While players will still have the option to share screenshots and videos on Facebook, Nintendo has hinted that this feature may also be discontinued in the future.
Nintendo is also removing the ability to send friend requests on social media from within the friend suggestions feature on the Switch. Despite this change, the feature will still be accessible through Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, even though their online services were shut down last month. This decision may come as a disappointment to players who have grown accustomed to using social media to connect with friends and share their gaming experiences.
