Alderon Games, the developer of the popular dinosaur MMO Path of Titans, recently made headlines by announcing a shift from Intel 13th and 14th Gen-based servers to AMD servers. This decision was prompted by significant instability issues that Alderon has been facing, leading to a myriad of crashes on gamers’ CPUs. According to Alderon founder Matthew Cassells, the affected processors have the potential to corrupt SSDs and memory, ultimately deteriorating over time and failing completely.
Contradictory Claims
While Alderon Games maintains that the majority of CPUs are experiencing these issues, Unreal Engine decompression tool maker RAD Game Tools has a different perspective. The company suggests that only a small fraction of processors are actually affected by the reported problems. This disparity in claims adds a layer of complexity to the situation, leaving server hosts unsure of which side to believe.
Intel, the manufacturer of the CPUs in question, has been under scrutiny for the alleged issues plaguing the servers. Initially, the company attributed the crashes to motherboard overclocking settings. However, this explanation falls short when applied to server hardware, which should be set more conservatively.
