Hideki Kamiya, the industry legend who departed from PlatinumGames last year, has expressed his ongoing interest in developing new installments in the Okami and Viewtiful Joe series. In a recent interview with Unseen, he emphasized how both storylines remain incomplete, prompting him to take action. Kamiya revealed that he even went as far as participating in Capcom’s survey and explicitly requesting a new Viewtiful Joe game when he noticed its absence as an option.

During the interview, Kamiya shared his frustration regarding the lack of response to his passionate pleas for a sequel to Viewtiful Joe. Despite personally reaching out to Capcom and expressing his eagerness to work on the project, his efforts seemed to be dismissed. He lamented, “That survey that Capcom did last time, it didn’t have Viewtiful Joe as an option. So I sent a response saying, ‘I am Hideki Kamiya, let me make Viewtiful Joe’s sequel.’ I wrote that and sent it, but it didn’t even make its way onto the survey results.”

In addition to his aspirations for the Viewtiful Joe series, Kamiya also highlighted the unresolved narrative of Okami. He acknowledged that the story had reached a premature conclusion, leaving both him and fans dissatisfied. Expressing a sense of responsibility as a creator, Kamiya stressed the importance of fulfilling fans’ expectations by delivering the sequels they desire. Despite his departure from the franchise, he expressed a lingering desire to complete the tale of Okami and urged Capcom to collaborate on this endeavor.

This isn’t the first time Hideki Kamiya has voiced his desire to continue the Okami and Viewtiful Joe series, raising the question of whether Capcom will heed his calls. As fans eagerly await news of potential sequels, Kamiya’s impassioned plea serves as a reminder of the creative vision and dedication required to bring these beloved franchises back to life. Will Capcom answer the industry legend’s call for new entries in these iconic series? Only time will tell if these cherished stories will receive the closure they deserve.
