Lux’s Halide app has already made a name for itself in the photography world, and now, the company is expanding its horizons with the launch of Kino, a dedicated video capture app for iPhone users. Unlike Halide, which focuses on RAW photography support, Kino is specifically designed to take advantage of the iPhone 15 Pro’s support for ProRes videos encoded in the Log format.
One of the standout features of Kino is its “Instant Grade” functionality, which allows users to easily apply grade presets to their footage. Additionally, users can record in Apple Log format within the app and preview or add presets at a later time. Kino also boasts AutoMotion, a feature that automatically selects the best exposure settings for achieving cinematic motion blur.
Moreover, Kino offers the ability to add Look Up Tables (LUTs) to footage, enabling users to modify the visual appearance of their videos using mathematical formulas. The app even allows for the inclusion of custom LUTs, a feature that is notably absent from Apple’s Final Cut Pro iPad app.
According to Lux’s developers, Kino does not collect or analyze user data, nor does it incorporate generative AI training. Furthermore, while Log support is a feature exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro, Kino is compatible with any device running iOS 17 or higher.

For a limited time, Kino will be available on the App Store at an introductory price of $9.99, which will increase to $19.99 after the promotional period.
