The Oculus Quest 1, which was launched back in 2019, is facing a major setback. As of May, new apps released in the Quest Store will no longer be playable on the Quest 1. This decision comes as a surprise to many, as the Quest 1 is still powerful enough to handle these new apps. However, the reason behind this move is not the device’s capabilities but rather a strategic decision made by Meta. Developers will no longer be able to upload new apps exclusively for Quest 1 users, leading to a halt in the availability of new content for these users.

From April 30th onwards, new Quest Store apps will no longer be visible to players using the Quest 1. Moreover, developers will be restricted from uploading apps that solely support Quest 1. Even builds for new apps that cater to multiple headsets will have their Quest 1 support blocked. This move by Meta signifies the beginning of the end for Quest 1 users, with support for security updates and bug fixes set to cease later in the year, in August. The loss of certain social features and compatibility issues with the Oculus SDK further add to the woes of Quest 1 users.

The treatment of the Quest 1 by Meta has left many users feeling disappointed and frustrated.
