Contrary to popular belief, Jake Lloyd, the child actor who portrayed young Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace, does not hate Star Wars as some speculate. In a recent interview with Scripps News, his mother, Lisa, revealed that Jake actually loves all the new Star Wars content. Despite the backlash his character received, Jake has been enjoying the Ahsoka TV series on Disney+ and even received an Ahsoka action figure for his birthday. His mother emphasized that he has a genuine love for the franchise, debunking the misconception that he despises Star Wars.

There has been a misconception that the negative reception of The Phantom Menace and his role in it contributed to Jake’s mental health struggles. However, Lisa firmly believes that this is not the case. She attributed Jake’s issues to a genetic predisposition to schizophrenia on his biological father’s side of the family. According to his mother, his psychiatrist also agrees that Jake was bound to develop schizophrenia regardless of external factors. It was not the backlash from the movie that triggered his mental illness and ultimately led to his decision to step away from acting.

Currently, Jake is undergoing mental health rehabilitation in an inpatient facility, where he is 10 months into an 18-month program. According to his mother, there have been positive signs of improvement in his condition. He is showing progress in his social interactions and is beginning to regain some of his old self. Despite the challenges he faces, Lisa expressed optimism about his recovery, stating that he is doing much better than expected.

The road to recovery has not been easy for Jake. In 2023, he experienced a psychotic break while driving home, leading to his admission to the mental health facility. Prior to this, in 2008, he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, which exacerbated his depression. In 2015, he faced legal troubles when he was arrested during a road trip, and in 2018, he tragically lost his younger sister, Madison, to natural causes. These challenges have taken a toll on Jake’s mental health and his ability to cope with the difficulties he has encountered.

The narrative surrounding Jake Lloyd’s mental health struggles is complex and multifaceted. While there have been misconceptions about his relationship with Star Wars and the factors that led to his condition, it is essential to understand the underlying genetic predisposition and personal challenges he has faced. Through his ongoing treatment and the support of his family, Jake is on a journey towards recovery and rebuilding his life.
