Last night, during the Independent Games Festival, one of the developers of Cryptmaster took the stage to announce the release date of the highly anticipated typing-based dungeon crawler. The game was awarded Excellence In Design, adding to the excitement surrounding its upcoming launch on May 9th.

Cryptmaster has been described as a mix between “Legend of Grimrock” and “Typing of the Dead,” but with a twist of its own. Players take on the role of a party of long-dead heroes resurrected by a necromancer to fulfill his not-so-evil plan. While combat involves typing names of abilities and spells, the game offers a variety of puzzles and challenges that go beyond traditional typing games.

One of the highlights of Cryptmaster is its diverse range of puzzles and combat scenarios that require strategic and accurate typing. From unlocking abilities by guessing their names to looting letters from enemies for guessing more abilities, the game keeps players on their toes with creative challenges. Combat conditions, such as enemies with shields that block specific letters, add an extra layer of complexity to the gameplay.

At the heart of Cryptmaster is the character of the Cryptmaster himself, portrayed by Lee Williams who is also the game’s writer and co-designer. Much like antagonists in games like “Hand of Fate” or “Inscryption,” the Cryptmaster becomes a central figure that players develop a unique relationship with. Despite his delusions of grandeur and somewhat diminished mental faculties, the Cryptmaster’s quirky and amusing personality adds depth to the game’s narrative.

What sets Cryptmaster apart is its interactive storytelling that allows players to make choices and discover multiple solutions to challenges. The dynamic reactions of the Cryptmaster to these choices create an immersive experience that keeps players engaged throughout the game. The witty dialogue and humorous elements add an extra layer of enjoyment to the overall gameplay.

As Cryptmaster gears up for its release on Steam on May 9th, players can look forward to a unique and captivating experience that combines typing, puzzles, and combat in an exciting dungeon crawler. The game’s engaging storyline, diverse challenges, and memorable characters make it a standout title in the indie gaming scene. For those eager to dive into the world of Cryptmaster, the demo is available on Steam for an early glimpse into what promises to be a truly remarkable gaming experience.
