Arrowhead Studios, developers of the popular game Helldivers 2, recently issued a warning to players about the presence of fake versions of their game and other popular titles on Steam. According to the studio, there are at least two fake versions of Helldivers 2 being marketed on the platform. It appears that these fake versions have managed to slip past Steam’s security measures and are posing a significant risk to unsuspecting players.

The studio’s legal team has been swift in taking action against the fake versions of their game. They have been working to have the fraudulent copies removed from the digital storefront as soon as possible. While some progress has been made in delisting these fake games, the threat they pose to players remains a cause for concern. Arrowhead Studios is urging players to be vigilant and avoid falling victim to these scams.

Arrowhead Studios has also provided guidance on how to differentiate between the genuine and fake versions of their game. They emphasize that the only legitimate copies of Helldivers 2 are the original game and the Super Citizen Edition. Players are advised to check the release date of the game, as Helldivers 2 officially launched on February 8, 2024. Any other versions claiming to be Helldivers 2 should be treated with suspicion.

It is not just Helldivers 2 that has been targeted by copycats. Other popular games such as Palworld, Last Epoch, and Escape From Tarkov have also been victims of similar scams. This highlights the pervasive nature of the issue and the need for players to exercise caution when purchasing games online.

The prevalence of fake versions of popular games on digital storefronts like Steam is a significant concern for both developers and players. Arrowhead Studios’ warning serves as a timely reminder for players to be vigilant and to take necessary precautions to avoid falling victim to these fraudulent schemes. By staying informed and verifying the authenticity of games before making a purchase, players can protect themselves from potential scams and ensure a safe gaming experience.
