Asus made waves at CES 2024 with the unveiling of its first ROG NUC. While launch specifications were shared, pricing and release date details were missing. However, a recent pre-order listing on European retailer Proshop has shed some light on these missing details. The listing reveals a launch price of €2,500 for the high-end version, which includes an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H CPU and an RTX 4070 laptop GPU. This top-tier SKU also boasts 2x16GB of DDR5 memory and a 1TB SSD, with a release date slated for April 10.

Affordable Version Coming Soon

Despite the hefty price tag of €2,500, Asus is also set to release a more budget-friendly variant. The lower-priced version will feature a Core Ultra 7 155H processor and RTX 4060 graphics. For enthusiasts of small form factor PCs, the ROG NUC presents an attractive option, even with the high price tag. However, the affordability factor comes into question, especially when considering the option to build a mini-ITX PC for less.

The 2.5L ROG NUC boasts impressive specifications that make it a compelling choice for those in the market for a compact yet powerful system. With the ability to accommodate up to 64GB of DDR5 SO-DIMM memory and three PCIe Gen 4 SSDs, the ROG NUC offers versatility and performance. Additionally, features like WiFi 6E, 2.5GB LAN, Thunderbolt4/USB4, and support for multiple displays make it a versatile option for various use cases.

The ROG NUC marks Asus’ first NUC following its partnership with Intel. The agreement outlines Asus’ role in selling and supporting 10th to 13th Gen NUC product lines, with a license to design systems like the ROG NUC. Looking ahead, the possibilities for future Asus NUC units are promising, with potential for Strix or TUF gaming NUCs, business-oriented NUCs, or even Zen or Vivo NUCs on the horizon. However, the concern remains about avoiding price escalation similar to the ROG NUC, especially if integrated graphics are utilized instead of costly discrete GPUs.
