The technology industry has been abuzz with rumors about Nvidia’s upcoming refresh of its RTX 40-series GPUs. While the final specifications are still uncertain, leaked information reveals some exciting news regarding the release dates of these highly anticipated graphics cards. According to reports from Videocardz, Nvidia is planning to announce the RTX 4070 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super, and RTX 4080 Super on 8th January 2024. These new GPUs are projected to hit retailers’ shelves on 17th, 24th, and 31st January, respectively. Additionally, there are whispers of an unnecessary RTX 3050 6GB entering the market in February.

The leaked announcement dates align with previous expectations set by Nvidia’s CES Special Address. Historically, Nvidia has released refreshed versions of its base models approximately a year after the initial launch. With the RTX 40-series, it seems that Nvidia is following the same pattern. Out of the three models receiving an update, the RTX 4070, RTX 4070 Ti, and RTX 4080 will be announced simultaneously, most likely during the CES 2024 event.

Following the announcement, unboxing videos and final reviews for these GPUs will be gradually rolled out over a period of nine to 23 days. The first GPU to be showcased will be the RTX 4070 Super, expected to bear a strong resemblance to the RTX 4070 Ti with a minor 7% reduction in shaders. If the performance remains largely the same, but the price is considerably lower than the Ti variant’s $799, customers could find this option particularly enticing.

Next in line will be the RTX 4070 Ti Super, scheduled for reviews and retailer availability during the second-to-last week in January. This refreshed model is rumored to incorporate a trimmed-down version of the AD103 GPU found in the RTX 4080, placing its performance between the 4070 Ti and 4080. While the price for this model is yet to be confirmed, it is hoped that it will stay within the vicinity of $799, making it an attractive choice for consumers.

The final addition to the RTX 40-series refresh will be the RTX 4080 Super, which is expected to showcase improved specifications. Details regarding this GPU’s features and capabilities will be disclosed at the end of January. From the available information, it appears that the RTX 4080 Super will utilize a full AD103 chip. However, unless there is a significant boost in clock speeds, the performance difference between the RTX 4080 and the 4080 Super might not be substantial. It is possible that Nvidia’s primary goal with this release is to reset the price position of its second most powerful GPU.

While the focus has been on the high-performance GPUs in the RTX 40-series refresh, leaked details also shed light on the anticipated release of the RTX 3050 6GB. Previous versions of the RTX 3050 were not known for their gaming prowess, and it seems the trend continues with this iteration. The new RTX 3050 is projected to have fewer shaders, lower clock speeds, and a reduction of 2GB VRAM. Even if the rumored $179 MSRP holds true, it is difficult to justify purchasing this GPU when for just $10 more, one can acquire an 8GB Radeon RX 6600 card. The underwhelming improvements and the availability of better alternatives make the RTX 3050 an unappealing choice for discerning buyers.

The impending release of Nvidia’s RTX 40-series GPUs is generating significant excitement within the gaming and technology communities. With leaked release dates and anticipated specifications, enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to upgrade their gaming setups. The refresh, focusing on the RTX 4070, RTX 4070 Ti, and RTX 4080, promises to deliver improved performance and enhanced gaming experiences. However, it is crucial to carefully evaluate each GPU’s features, pricing, and value proposition in order to make an informed purchasing decision. As the release dates draw nearer, customers and experts alike will have a clearer picture of Nvidia’s offerings, allowing them to determine the best GPU for their specific needs and preferences.
